The view from here

By Peter Jeewan, CA, President & CEO

Peter JeewanTraditionally, when employers and candidates spoke of compensation, the emphasis was money —fair and competitive financial compensation for a job well-done. Today, in the recession’s shadow and parallel to the growing work-life balance movement, more and more individuals and companies are thinking laterally when it comes to defining total compensation...

Communicating compensation

By Duff McCutcheon, Communications Specialist, Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA)

Duff McCutcheonAsk an employee about their compensation package and you might get a very different answer from what management or HR has to say. While it’s clear to employers what comprises a worker’s total rewards, often an employee will only consider salary and benefits because they don’t realize the investment the organization has made in them...

Brrr!! Motivating without money
during a salary freeze

By Garold Markle, CEO, Energage, Inc..

Garold MarkleHaving just come off a record hot summer, isn’t it ironic that so many businesses have salary systems that are frozen?

Just south of the border, U.S. presidential decree has mandated that all government entities and federal contractors can not distribute merit pay increases this year or next.  No matter how solvent the organization or how significant an individual contribution, base salaries are on ice...

One of our large clients once told us of their annual incentive plan, "We spend thousands of person hours and millions of dollars de-motivating more than fifty percent of our staff…"

In Memory
Lannick supports The David Donaldson Memorial Fund established in honour of David who died of a heart attack at the age of 38 while playing hockey.

The Memorial Fund was set up to purchase defibrillators for public places. Defibrillators, when used in conjunction with CPR in the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest, can dramatically improve survival rates by more than 50%. Each year, approximately 7,000 Ontarians will experience cardiac arrest. Up to 85% of cardiac arrests occur at home or in public places.

A fund raising BBQ and Auction will be held on October 15, 2011. To make a donation or help sponsor the event, please contact Ron Palaczka, Managing Partner, Lannick Recruitment, Ottawa.
